Today in 1965 – In Selma, Alabama, State troopers and local law enforcement forcefully break up a group of 600 civil rights marchers. The event was televised and was dubbed Bloody Sunday.

Today in 2007 – British House of Commons votes to make the upper chamber, the House of Lords, 100% elected.
